👥 Primary Audience: Admins, Partner Admins, Operation Managers, Data Entry
App permissions control what drivers and carriers can see and do within the Alvys mobile app, the application installed on a driver’s phone or tablet. These permissions are separate from the web-based TMS permissions that govern what back-office staff can do. App permissions exist at the intersection of operations, finance, and privacy. They determine whether a driver can see their pay rate before delivery, whether they can edit load information on the road, and which documents are accessible to them at any point during a trip.
Understanding app permissions is important for every owner and operations manager because the choices made here shape the driver experience and determine the information carriers can access. Some companies choose to give drivers full transparency by showing their pay, documents, and trip value. Others take a more restricted approach for privacy or security reasons. Both approaches are valid. This article explains what each permission does so you can make the right decisions for your operation.
ℹ️
When an administrator/data entry user creates a new driver in the Driver List, they provide essential information such as the driver’s name, address, and mobile phone number. This mobile number serves as the unique identifier that connects the driver to the Alvys Mobile App. Once the driver downloads the app from the App Store or Google Play Store, they initiate the login process using the same phone number listed on their driver profile. The system then sends a one-time verification code via SMS, which the driver enters to securely confirm their identity. Upon successful verification, Alvys automatically generates a corresponding user account with the Driver role under Company Profile > Users. This automated process ensures that the driver’s app access is directly linked to their profile in the system, allowing an administrator to review and assign specific permissions so the driver can safely access the functionality and information relevant to their role.
Where to Manage App Permissions
⚠️ To modify these permissions, the logged-in user, preferably an administrator, must possess the “Set Permission” permission located within the Management category. Without “Set Permission”, a user can view the user profile or form but cannot adjust any permissions. For additional information regarding the “Set Permission”, please refer to the Management & Privacy Permissions article.
Driver App Permissions are managed from the driver profile or at the user level.
To manage these settings from the user profile:
Select your username located in the bottom left corner.
Navigate to the Company Profile and select the Users tab.
Choose an existing user to Edit or select the Add User button to create a new profile.
Scroll to the Permissions section and locate the App category.
Identify the eight (8) individual checkboxes corresponding to the specific permissions detailed in this article:

App Permissions Breakdown
View Trip Value
The View Trip Value permission controls the visibility of the general trip value (the total amount payable for a trip) across the Alvys web interface. This permission also appears in the Rates category, where it governs trip value visibility on the web interface load board and Money Box components.
In the app context, it specifically determines whether mobile app users can see trip financial data. Companies may want to control who sees payment amounts. For example, company drivers might not need to see trip values, while owner-operators may need to verify their payment amounts. This permission provides that control. A driver without this permission can see the trip details, but the trip value remains hidden.
💡 This is the same permission as "View Trip Value" in the Rates category it controls trip value visibility across both the web and mobile interfaces. For comprehensive documentation of this permission's web interface behavior, see the Rates Permissions article.
✅ Best Practice: Grant View Trip Value to owner-operators who need to verify their trip payments in the mobile app. For company drivers, evaluate whether visibility of trip values is necessary before granting this permission.
Issue E-Check
The Issue E-Check app permission controls whether a driver can generate e-checks through the mobile app. E-checks are electronic payment instruments used to provide drivers with funds for fuel, lumper fees, and other road expenses. Generating e-checks requires an active E-Check integration. The company must be properly integrated with Comdata or EFS for this permission to function
💡 This is the same permission that appears in the E-Check category, where it controls e-check issuance through the web interface. For comprehensive documentation of this permission’s behavior in the web interface, refer to the E-Check Permissions article.
✅ Best Practice: Grant Issue E-Check only to drivers who have the authority to commit company funds for road expenses. Also ensure that an e-check cap is set for the driver being granted this permission.
Cancel E-Check
The Cancel E-Check permission controls whether a user can cancel previously issued e-checks through the mobile app. It is a corrective action that reverses a payment authorization before the funds are cashed. This is necessary when an e-check was issued in error, when a driver no longer needs the funds, or when the amount was incorrect. Mobile app cancellation allows for a quick response to changing field conditions. Canceling an e-check voids the payment before it is cashed, preventing the funds from being disbursed.
💡 This is the same permission that appears in the E-Check category. For comprehensive documentation of this permission’s behavior in the web interface, refer to the E-Check Permissions article.

✅ Best Practice: Grant Cancel E-Check alongside Issue E-Check. Drivers who can generate e-checks should typically also be able to cancel them to correct errors.
View Customer Rate Confirmation
View Customer Rate Confirmation allows a driver or carrier to open and read the customer rate confirmation document, which shows the rate your company has agreed to receive from the customer for the load. This is the rate your company charges the customer, not the rate paid to the driver or carrier.
This document typically includes the customer’s name, the contracted rate, the lane, commodity, and terms. In standard trucking operations, this is a back-office document between your company and your customer. Making it visible to the driver means they can see what the customer is paying, which is separate from what the driver or carrier is being paid.
There are legitimate operational reasons for a driver to see this document. For example, a driver representing your company at a shipper’s dock may need to reference the agreed rate for paperwork matching purposes. However, this is a sensitive business document. If the customer rate is significantly higher than the carrier or driver rate, a driver who sees both values can infer your company’s margin on the load, which may create tension or lead to renegotiation pressure.
✅ Best Practice: Do not grant View Customer Rate Confirmation to all drivers. Limit this permission to scenarios where it is operationally necessary, such as a broker-carrier relationship in which the carrier legitimately needs the customer document for BOL or customs purposes.
View Carrier Rate Confirmation
View Carrier Rate Confirmation allows a driver to open and read their own carrier rate confirmation document, which states the rate your company has agreed to pay the carrier for the load. This is the carrier’s copy of the rate agreement and includes the lane, load details, agreed rate, and any special terms specific to the carrier. Without this permission, these documents are hidden in the mobile interface.
Unlike the customer rate confirmation, which shows what the shipper pays your company, the carrier rate confirmation shows what your company pays the carrier or driver. For most owner-operators, this document is the primary financial reference for the load.
The carrier rate confirmation serves as the driver’s or carrier’s proof of the agreed payment. Granting access to this document through the app allows the carrier to review it at any time, before accepting the load, during transport, or after delivery, without needing to call dispatch. This reduces "what am I getting paid?" questions and provides a clear paper trail for resolving rate disputes.
✅ Best Practice: Grant this permission to dispatchers and operations staff who need access to carrier rate information in the mobile app. It is typically assigned alongside View Customer Rate Confirmation for users who require full rate visibility.
View Payable Amount
View Payable Amount allows a driver to see the specific dollar amount they will be paid for a trip directly in the Alvys app. This is different from View Trip Value. While View Trip Value shows the total value of the trip, View Payable Amount shows the portion payable to the driver specifically. The payable amount includes the base rate, accessorials, deductions, and settlement items to calculate the net amount owed. Without this permission, no pay figure is displayed on the load screen, and pay information is only visible after settlement processing. For example, if a load pays $2,200 total and the driver is on a 70% split, View Payable Amount would show $1,540, which is the driver’s share, not the total rate.
This permission is particularly relevant for drivers who want to know their earnings for a completed or in-progress load. In practice, some companies grant both View Trip Value and View Payable Amount to owner-operators, while only granting View Payable Amount to company drivers on revenue-share arrangements. Deciding whether drivers should see their pay before a delivery is confirmed is an operational and philosophical decision that varies by company.
✅ Best Practice: Grant this permission to owner-operators who need to verify their payment amounts. For company drivers, evaluate on a case-by-case basis whether pay visibility is necessary.
View App Paystubs
View App Paystubs allows a driver to access their historical pay stubs directly within the Alvys mobile app. Instead of waiting for emailed statements or calling the office for past payments, drivers with this permission can browse their pay history in the app, including settlement amounts, deductions, advance repayments, and load-by-load breakdowns for each pay period. Without this permission, no pay history section appears in the app, and the driver can only view current load information. With this permission, a Pay Statements item appears in the driver profile in the app, allowing drivers to view their historical pay stubs directly.
Pay transparency reduces driver complaints and lowers administrative workload. When drivers can access their own pay history on demand, dispatch and accounting teams spend less time answering questions about past load payments. This also gives drivers a greater sense of control over their earnings, improving satisfaction and retention.
ℹ️ Note that this permission is distinct from the View Paystubs permission in the Billing category, which controls access to paystubs through the web interface.
✅ Best Practice: Grant View App Paystubs to all drivers who use the mobile app to provide convenient self-service access to their pay information.
Edit Trailer Number
Edit Trailer Number allows a driver to change the trailer number on their load directly within the Alvys mobile app. The trailer number identifies the physical trailer being hauled. Normally, the trailer is assigned by the dispatcher or yard manager when the load is planned.
In day-to-day operations, drivers frequently swap trailers at customer facilities, terminals, or drop yards, and the trailer on the load record needs to be updated to reflect what is actually being hauled. With this permission, drivers can update it themselves in seconds. Accurate trailer tracking is essential for fleet management, compliance, and load tracking. Trailer numbers on trips must reflect the actual equipment in use. When a driver switches trailers in the field due to mechanical issues, capacity needs, or facility requirements, the system needs to be updated. This permission allows mobile app users to make this update in real time without calling the office.
✅ Best Practice: Enable Edit Trailer Number for all company drivers and owner-operators. The frequency of legitimate trailer swaps in normal operations makes this a practical necessity. Train drivers to update the trailer number immediately upon swap, not at the end of the day, to keep records current.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: How do drivers gain access to the Alvys Mobile App initially? A: Access is tied to the mobile phone number entered in the Driver Profile. Once the driver downloads the app and enters their number, they receive an SMS verification code. Upon successful entry, Alvys automatically links their app to a "Driver" user account in the system.
Q: Why do some App permissions also appear in other categories like Rates or E-Check? A: Permissions such as View Trip Value, Issue E-Check, and Cancel E-Check are shared across categories because they control functionality in both the web TMS and the mobile app. Enabling the permission in one category automatically enables it in the other, as they share the same underlying functionality.
Q: Should I grant all App permissions to every driver? A: No. You should evaluate needs based on the driver's relationship with the company.
Q: What is the difference between View App Paystubs and the View Paystubs permission in the Billing category? A: They are entirely separate. View App Paystubs specifically unlocks the "Pay Statements" section within the mobile app, whereas the Billing version controls access via the web interface. A driver needs the App-specific permission to see their history on a phone/tablet.
Q: Can a driver see customer rates on the web load board if I grant them View Customer Rate Confirmation? A: No. View Customer Rate Confirmation only allows the driver to open the specific PDF/document within the mobile app.
Q: Why is the Edit Trailer Number permission vital for drivers? A: Drivers frequently swap equipment at drop yards or due to mechanical issues. Enabling this permission allows them to update the system in real time, ensuring that fleet tracking and compliance records remain accurate without requiring a phone call to dispatch.
