Custom Reports Guide Collection

Written by Alvys Admin

This collection includes the core walkthroughs for getting started with Custom Reports, customizing dashboards and visualizations, and (optionally) writing advanced custom metrics in MAQL. Follow the recommended order below, or jump to the topic you need.

1. Get started with Custom Reports

Summary: An end-to-end walkthrough for building your first dashboard using pre-built visualizations from the Analytics Catalog—no formulas required. It also explains where Custom Reports lives in the Alvys UI and what you can do from the sidebar.

2. Filter, drill, and save the view you want

Summary: Shows how to work in dashboard view mode: apply attribute/date filters, use cross-filtering and drilling (when enabled), and save personal filter views for repeatable workflows. Ideal for day-to-day use without opening the Visualization Designer.

3. Set up Custom Reports

Summary: An admin-focused setup guide covering how to enable Custom Reports for your team and assign Reporting Access (None/Viewer/Analytic) to users. Use this if you don’t see Custom Reports in the sidebar or need to grant someone access.

4. Build visualizations with drag-and-drop

Summary: Teaches how to create or modify a visualization by dragging metrics/attributes into buckets, switching chart types, and saving changes (or saving as new). Includes a worked example so you can confidently adapt an existing visualization to your needs.

5. Advanced — write custom metrics with MAQL

Summary: For the rare cases where the Catalog doesn’t include the metric you need, this guide explains how to author custom measures in MAQL, including filtering inside a metric and common formula patterns. It also includes function reference and best practices for naming and sharing tenant-visible metrics.
